We spend a third of our lives sleeping which shapes our mood, energy and decisions making skills, yet we don’t know much about sleep.
How much do you know?
Have you ever researched any of the following questions:
How much do you know?
Have you ever researched any of the following questions:
- How much should I sleep per night or per week?
- What position should I sleep in?
- What type of bed is right for my body?
- How should I prepare for sleep?
- How should I recover from sleep?
- Is it OK to take naps? If so, how long should naps be?
- Is caffeine a good stimulant to boost energy? If so, how much should I consume?
My guess is that maybe you’ve researched one or two of these questions such as “how much should I sleep per night?” then took the most popular answer of 8 hours and ran with it.
So, for such an important act that consumes a third of our life, we have no knowledge on how to properly perform. Doing it correctly can prolong the performance of your body and even increase your life expectancy. It can also increase alertness and boost daily performance. The benefits from sleeping properly are endless and that is why we MUST learn more about it.
If you're like me, you’re busy with daily tasks and don’t have countless hours to spend researching all the ins and outs of sleep. Don’t worry. Nick Littlehales “The Sleep Guru” has done this for you. He’s compiled his vast knowledge of sleep into one book, Sleep. He has experimented on and trained some of the top athletes and business executives in the world such as Christiano Ronaldo. His methods have been adopted by many of the top sports leagues and companies. Because of this, Sleep, has the possibility of being the most influential book that you have read in awhile. |
Here are some important key points in Sleep by Nick Littlehales:
- Needing 8 hours of sleep per night is a myth. Sleep is meant to be done in multiples of 90 minutes. Therefore 7.5 hours may be best for you. However, maybe only 6 hours is what you need. Nick explains in further detail how you can find out the number of hours you need.
- The time spent before and after sleep is very important. Nick gives his advice when it comes to technology use, physical activity and more before and after sleep.
- How the use of caffeine affects sleep and when/how much is most effective
- How important daylight is and how to counter the effect of not getting natural daylight in your daily routine such as when you work the nightshift.
- The benefits of naps within your day and how long they should be.
- How important choosing the right bed for your body and sleep environment is to getting a good nights rest.
For something as important as sleep, it's important that we learn more about the topic. Again, I highly recommend reading this book if you want to boost your daily performance, decrease fatigue, increase health and well being or if you simply want to learn more about the topic.
